Beach Opening:     Weekends starting Memorial Day Saturday; Weekly starting Sat, June 18th    

             Junior Guard Information:

Program starts Monday, June 27th and runs for 10 sessions Mon & Wed on Norwood Avenue Beach, from 9:30 - 11:30 until Monday August 1st, followed by the Junior Nationals in Cape May on Wed Aug 3rd and Thurs Aug 4th.

There are inter-town tournaments also within the weeks of the schedule, usually on the other week days - i.e. Tues or Thurs

Ages are 8 to 17, and are grouped together for some sessions but separated out into three age groups for others, depending on equipment and other arrangments.

The cost is $90  per guard and includes the sessions in Avon, logo'd shorts, logo'd rash guard, a workbook, and USLA membership, and equipment maintenance and update. Our instructors are all working Avon Lifeguards who volunteer their time.  The program is run by the Lifeguards and not the Recreation Dept or any individuals hired to do so.

You can download the form on the forms page, and even though it says 2010, it is THE SAME FORM for 2011. If you are signing up more than one Junior Guard, please use one form for each.  Please BE CAREFUL to fill out the whole form, and be especially careful in providing sizes for the uniform pieces.  Please include your signature and date, and emergency contact information as well as any other medical information you believe we should know about.  A check made out to   Avon Junior Guards   should be sent, along with the form to  The Borough of Avon - by - the- Sea,   Attention: Jesse Le Vine Lifeguard Chief,  301 Main Street, Avon by the Sea, NJ   07717.   Please continue reading !!!

If you want to sign up IN PERSON, those dates are Sun 5/29, Mon 5/30, Sat 6/4, Sat 6/11 and Sun 6/12  from 10:30 - 12:00 am at the Avon Lifeguard Headquarters located at the intersection of Sylvania and Ocean Avenues on the boardwalk, overlooking the beach (!).  Please try to conform to those times so we can have individuals ready to process your application.

We haven't established a cut off date or cut off number yet, but it would be very important for you to sign up as soon as possible, especially in order for us to order uniforms and for you to get the correct sizes.

Finally, we are a small town where the actual Junior Guard program first began in New Jersey and pride ourselves on its quality and attention to it's Junior Guards. Our Juniors learn valuable water safety information and skills and have a LOT of fun as well.  Many of them also go on to become regular guards in the future.  We want to THANK YOU for taking an interest in our longstanding program.
